2025 Research Center Delegation Visit to Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST)

In July 2025, the Reliability Engineering Research Center of Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) visited the prestigious Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) to engage in academic exchange and discuss future collaborations. The visit was coordinated by Prof. Yong-Hwa Park, a jointly appointed professor with MCUT’s Department of Mechanical Engineering and KAIST. The delegation was led by the Center Director and Prof. Yu-Jen Chiu, focusing on key topics such as AI-based fault diagnosis, machine learning, and intelligent machinery.

The visit included a meeting with KAIST Vice President Prof. Kyung-Soo Kim, a tour of research laboratories in electric vehicles and battery systems, and a joint research seminar. Both sides shared technical insights and experiences in areas such as smart EV technologies, multi-fault diagnosis, and robotic mechanism calibration.

During the exchange, MCUT formally presented a joint appointment certificate to Prof. Park, marking a new milestone in the partnership and setting the stage for future collaboration.

At the research seminar, KAIST doctoral students Mr. Wonho Jung and Mr. Wonjun Yi presented their work on fault diagnosis and AI-based multi-fault identification. MCUT master’s student Mr. Thanh-Trung Pham introduced research on deformation-based Fourier transform analysis and multi-fault detection. Prof. Park was impressed by Mr. Pham’s performance and encouraged him to apply for the KAIST Ph.D. program.

MCUT faculty members also presented research conducted in collaboration with KAIST’s vibration database using deep learning methods for fault detection, as well as studies on robotic mechanism calibration enhanced by machine learning. Multiple collaboration opportunities were discussed, and a follow-up meeting is planned at MCUT later this year, with the Vice President of Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) expected to attend. The goal is to jointly design a trilateral cooperation framework among MCUT, KAIST, and HUST, focusing on vibrations, robotics, and AI-based fault diagnosis.

This fruitful visit not only deepened the academic ties between MCUT and KAIST but also laid a solid foundation for establishing a long-term international collaboration model among the three universities. It reflects MCUT’s commitment to global academic engagement and research development.
