2025 Research Center Delegation Visit to Universities in Malaysia and Indonesia

To support the expansion of business operations in Southeast Asia by our affiliated start-up company, ShenZhi Technology, Professor Jing-Wei Liang, Director of the Center and faculty member of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, led a five-member delegation to Malaysia (Penang) and Indonesia (Bengkulu) from August 17 to 27, 2025. The delegation included Chairman Chuang-Ran Chang and senior executives from ShenZhi Technology.

On August 18, the delegation arrived in Penang, Malaysia, and visited UCHI Tech., where they received a warm welcome from company founder Mr. Ted Kao, Chairman Mr. Chin Yuan-Meng, and Executive Director Mr. Stanley Huang. During the visit, the delegation toured UCHI Tech.’s facilities and reviewed the company’s development history. They also inspected the outcomes of the 2024 UCHI Tech. training program organized by our Center and engaged in discussions on the details of the upcoming international industry–academia collaboration project.

The following photos showcase highlights of the delegation’s visit to UCHI Tech.

On August 19, 2025, the delegation attended the opening ceremony of a donated laboratory at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TARUMT), Penang Branch, hosted by UCHI Tech. During the event, Professor Jing-Wei Liang, Director of the Center, proposed to TARUMT President Tan Sri Lee the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two universities to initiate international cooperation.

The first initiative under this collaboration will involve sending master’s students from TARUMT Penang’s Department of Electronics to our Center for specialized training in embedded systems and AI image processing. This training program is part of the second phase of our international industry–academia collaboration project.

President Lee expressed strong support for this proposal and immediately appointed Professor Toh, Director of TARUMT Penang Branch, to visit Ming Chi University of Technology on September 15, 2025, to further discuss the details of the cooperation.

After concluding the industry–academia exchange activities in Malaysia, the delegation departed from their hotel in Penang early in the morning on August 20, 2025, traveling first to Jakarta and then connecting to Bengkulu, Indonesia, where they arrived at Bengkulu Airport in the evening.

On the following day (August 21, 2025), the five-member delegation visited the Indonesia Branch of ShenZhi Technology. The visit included a review of the branch’s team members, office facilities, management system, and administrative operations. Chairman Chuang-Ran Chang also took this valuable opportunity to personally present the company’s vision, development roadmap, and strategic plans to the local employees.

Of particular significance to academic collaboration was the introduction of the Sponsored Master’s Program. The delegation explained that qualified and motivated employees would have the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree at Ming Chi University of Technology, with all tuition and related expenses fully funded by ShenZhi Technology.

In addition, the delegation participated in the weekly joint meeting between ShenZhi headquarters and the Indonesia Branch, further strengthening internal communication and coordination.

On August 26, 2025, the delegation visited University of Bengkulu (UNIB), the leading public university in the Bengkulu region. Around 10 a.m., the delegation arrived at the Faculty of Engineering building, where they were warmly received by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, two Vice Deans, and several department chairs. After a brief exchange of greetings, both sides exchanged souvenirs and took commemorative photos.

As the majority of ShenZhi Technology’s Indonesia branch employees are graduates of UNIB’s Informatics Engineering and related programs, the university holds a particularly close connection with the company. The university highly valued this visit, and following the initial exchange, participants moved to an auditorium for the main session: a technical presentation and live demonstration of ShenZhi Technology’s latest R&D achievements. The event attracted approximately 200 senior students and faculty members from the Faculty of Engineering.

The session opened with remarks from both the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Professor Jing-Wei Liang, Director of the Center. In his address, Professor Liang expressed gratitude to UNIB alumni who had joined ShenZhi Technology and welcomed motivated students to apply for master’s programs at Ming Chi University of Technology.

The technical presentation was delivered by Mr. Chao-Chun Chang, Manager of ShenZhi Technology’s Malaysia and Indonesia branches. His report featured developments in the Smart Coffee Machine System and Video Conference System. The presentation drew enthusiastic engagement, as many students actively asked questions in English, demonstrating the intelligence, curiosity, and confidence of UNIB’s engineering students.

In the afternoon, a meeting was held between UNIB’s Vice President, department chairs of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Liang, and ShenZhi Technology Chairman Chuang-Ran Chang. The discussions focused on deepening tripartite collaboration among Ming Chi University of Technology, ShenZhi Technology, and UNIB, with the support of ShenZhi’s Indonesia branch. Both sides reached a consensus to prioritize a joint project starting with UNIB faculty members, supported by ShenZhi’s hardware resources, to develop applications in wide-angle fisheye imaging technology.

On August 26, 2025, the delegation concluded its official visit to Indonesia with a stop at Dahasen University Bengkulu, a private institution. At around 10 a.m., the delegation arrived on campus and met with the University President, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and several senior administrators.

Compared to the University of Bengkulu, Dahasen University is smaller in scale, with fewer English-speaking faculty members and a more limited degree of internationalization. Nevertheless, the meeting provided an opportunity for meaningful dialogue and cultural exchange.

During the visit, ShenZhi Technology and Dahasen University Bengkulu formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to initiate future cooperation. The session concluded with a ceremony of gift exchange and photo-taking to commemorate the partnership.

Following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, the delegation proceeded with a technical presentation, similar to the one delivered at the University of Bengkulu. The presentation introduced ShenZhi Technology’s developments in the Video Conference System and Smart Coffee Machine System, followed by an on-site demonstration.

As the overall academic level of Dahasen University students was relatively less advanced compared to those at the University of Bengkulu, the session required simultaneous translation of the speaker’s remarks into Indonesian. Consequently, most of the questions during the Q&A session came from the university’s faculty members rather than students, resulting in a more limited level of technical exchange.

The final activity of the delegation’s visit was a roundtable discussion with the faculty of Dahasen University, chaired by the university’s Vice President for International Affairs. Over the course of nearly an hour, both sides reached several preliminary agreements. These included:

  • Inviting students and faculty members with relevant expertise to visit Taiwan for academic exchange;

  • Exploring opportunities for collaboration with Dahasen University’s business-related departments, where faculty could assist in promoting ShenZhi’s products or designing business models, should suitable products from ShenZhi Indonesia become available;

  • Considering the installation of a surveillance system on campus, supported by ShenZhi Technology, to enhance campus safety, provided resources allow.

The session concluded with a group photo to commemorate the discussion. With this, the delegation formally concluded its industry–academia exchange and visit to Malaysia and Indonesia.
